Use Case Type Lab is the independent font foundry connected to State-Work Co, co-founded with designer Ollie Ennis. By implementing radical commercial models for end user pricing, we hope to make creative typefaces more accessible to students and young designers while challenging the conventional value of intellectual property on a larger scale.

Type Design
01. SW Grotesk When designer Wolfgang Weingart was asked why he used one specific typeface he replied, “Many people say it's a very ugly typeface, but my goal…was to work with primitive simple tools and then try to bring the maximum out of them." When I set upon designing the typeface that would come to identify myself and my practice, I was inspired by his approach. S-W Grotesk is not a corporate, buttoned-up sans-serif. It is rather corporeal, inspired by the vernacular type of the factory and the street, expressive of a specifically human character and our productive impulse. SW Grotesk is the primary brand font of State-Work.
02. Interior Documents WIP
Interior Documents is an irregular geometric sans serif with a contemporary lean. The design is a result of collaboration and a back-and-forth between extremely strict grid rules and playful whimsy. The name is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the artifacts and unique impressions that the typeface accumulated as Ollie and I passed the project back and forth and edited each other’s work. This project is a work in progress.
